Exercises: Reading plots in the light of grand narratives

  1. Does the narrative you are reading or viewing make any reference to a ‘grand narrative’ of the kind introduced above?
  2. If so, how does it do this and what is the ‘grand narrative’ to which it appeals?
  3. Also if so, does it uphold or contest this grand narrative? How does it do so and what difference does this make to the manner in which we respond to and interpret the events it contains?
